His ‘primitive but wonderful touch’ (Jerry Saltz) regularly depicts vanitas of modern hedonism and allusions of satanic temptation. ‘Black of the Sun (Avant)’, a 23 layer screen print, incorporates much of what makes Kerwick’s paintings so arresting. References to snake handling religious sects and fruit seemingly picked from a Velvet Underground album cover then left to rot.  The Garden of Eden reimagined in a fever dream of shamanic Cockatoo’s and 80’s hair metal.
